During a dragon attack, Hiccup manages to shoot down a Night Fury, one of the rarest and most feared dragons. However, when he finds the dragon in the forest, he can’t bring himself to kill it and instead befriends it, naming it Toothless.
Hiccup begins secretly training Toothless, learning about dragons and their behaviors. As he spends more time with Toothless, Hiccup realizes that dragons are not the mindless creatures they are believed to be. He discovers that they have their own personalities and can be loyal companions. Hiccup’s relationship with Toothless grows stronger, and he becomes more confident in his abilities.
Meanwhile, Hiccup attends dragon training with other young Vikings, including Astrid, his crush. Despite his lack of physical strength, Hiccup uses his newfound knowledge to excel in the training. When he finally reveals his secret friendship with Toothless to Astrid, she initially doesn’t understand but eventually comes to accept and support him.
As the Vikings prepare for an annual dragon attack, Hiccup suggests a different approach. He proposes using his knowledge of dragons to communicate with them and find a peaceful solution. The village initially dismisses his idea, but when the dragons attack, Hiccup and Toothless intervene and manage to stop the fighting.
The Vikings, led by Hiccup, realize that dragons are not their enemies but can be their allies. They start training and riding dragons, forming a bond between humans and dragons that changes their way of life.
